Sharifaben’s Recipe for Change
July 25, 2025
With a ₹30,000 SHG loan, Sharifaben started a Dabeli cart with her son. Today, she sells 200 Dabelis a day—building financial independence and a better future for her family, one snack at a time.

Sharifaben Chuchiya, 42, from Devdi Faliya, Bhuj, has been a member of the Devdi Mahila Bachat Mandal since 2011. Two years ago, she took a bold step toward financial independence by starting a small fast food business selling Dabeli, a beloved local snack.
With a ₹30,000 loan from her SHG, she bought a second-hand vending cart and raw materials. Though she had no prior business experience, she learned to make her own masala—a recipe that quickly won customers over.
Sharifaben now sells Dabeli near Bhid Gate, one of Bhuj’s busiest spots. While she prepares the food, her son handles sales. Together, they sell around 200 Dabelis a day, ensuring a steady income and regular reinvestment into the business.
Her journey reflects the power of SHGs in enabling women to build livelihoods, gain confidence, and support their families through self-employment and collective strength.
