Jalgatha at Bhuj

The Urban Environmental Education and Homes In The City programme organised Jalgatha (Journey of Water) on 23rd and 24th December in Bhuj. More than 120 students from different schools across the city participated in the programme. Through this event, students were introduced to the unique traditional water system of Bhuj.

The journey began at the Jadura Hills, from where water historically flows towards Hamirsar Lake. All participants, including students, youth volunteers, and teachers, took part with great enthusiasm.

At a time when rapid urbanisation and industrialisation are continuously affecting the city and disrupting the natural flow of the historic water system in Bhuj, it is essential to revisit and learn how it is sustained. The destruction taking place today will directly affect the younger generation, as they are the future inhabitants of the city. In this context, discussing the journey of water and the changes occurring in the city with young students becomes extremely important.
