Migrant workers are the backbone of Bhuj's economy, yet many continue to live on the margins with limited access to housing, clean water, healthcare, and social welfare. This report by Setu Abhiyan presents a comprehensive assessment of the living conditions of migrant workers in Bhuj, drawing on surveys of 192 migrant workers from 129 households, focus group discussions, and interviews with government officials and other key stakeholders.
The study examines migrants' access to essential services, including Housing, Water and Sanitation, Healthcare, and Labour Welfare Schemes. It highlights critical challenges such as forced evictions, inadequate housing, poor sanitation, barriers to accessing government entitlements, gaps in maternal and child healthcare, and the limited implementation of welfare provisions for construction workers.
Beyond documenting these realities, the report offers practical recommendations for strengthening urban governance and making public systems more inclusive of migrant communities.
