Dignity of Migrant Workers in Bhuj

After the 2001 earthquake, rapid industrialisation and urbanisation reshaped Kutch, drawing migrant workers from neighbouring states to rebuild Bhuj. Many stayed, with some living here for over 15 years, and their second generations calling the city home.

Living in makeshift huts with limited access to basic services like electricity and sanitation, these families face numerous challenges. Homes in the City (HIC) supports them by facilitating access to essential services, social security schemes, and their basic rights, helping underserved communities adapt to a rapidly changing cityscape.
