A Practical Solution to Navigate Extreme Heat
September 9, 2026
Across the globe, rising temperatures are a growing concern, and India is no exception. Extreme heat is affecting health, livelihoods, agriculture, and the everyday lives of millions. In an arid city like Bhuj, the challenge is even more pronounced.

During summer, temperatures can rise to levels that make it difficult for people to remain outdoors. Our homes are meant to be protective spaces—sheltering us from heat, cold, rain, and other elements. Even inside their homes, people sweat and struggle to stay comfortable.
The impact is felt most severely by marginalised communities, particularly low-income households that cannot afford air conditioners or other cooling solutions. Women, who often spend long hours at home, are especially affected by rising indoor temperatures.
To address this challenge, Homes In The City, together with its partner organisations, including AINA (Artisans in Architecture), Hunnarshala Foundation, and others, has developed a low-cost, context-sensitive approach to reducing indoor temperatures. The intervention aims to make homes more comfortable and help families cope with the increasing heat during summer.
This short documentary captures the experiences of people who have benefited from the intervention and explores how a simple, affordable approach can make a difference in their everyday lives. We would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please feel free to share them in the comments
